Florida guide report - Typhoon Lagoon
Typhoon Lagoon is part of the Walt Disney World water parks and can be included on your 5, 7 or 10 day theme park tickets normally as a bolt on. We visited Typhoon lagoon many times over the years and must say we were very impressed with what is there. Normally waterparks can be a bit of a let down after visiting the main theme parks, but this is not the case with the Disney Waterparks, which pack lots of activities for the children, with big water slides for the adults. When visiting a Disney waterpark, you can relax or be as busy as you want.
Typhoon lagoon has many rides and activities to do, KETCHAKIDEE CREEK, CRUSH ‘N’ GUSHER, SURF POOL, CASTAWAY CREEK HUMUMGA KOWABUNGA to name a few. For those that do not want to do much more than catch some sun, don’t worry there are many sun loungers scattered about where you can just sit back and relax and watch the world go by. Typhoon Lagoon really does have something for everyone. If visiting Typhoon Lagoon we always advise arriving nice and early to get the best sun spots. The park can get busy by mid-day, so ensuring you have a good base is essential. Arrive too late and the only places left will be areas of the park you might not be able to sunbath.
For the children you can hire life jackets and towels (free of charge) and there are also lockers that you can put all your belongings in. These facilities are located by the entrance of the park.
One of my favourite rides has to be the CRUSH ‘N’ GUSHER. This ride is a water coaster that goes up to 20mph and reaches heights of 35- 40ft. The water coaster is designed to give you a unique experience, propelling you through hairpin bends, uphill climbs and sudden drops. Overall the track is around 430 feet long.
Another favourite ride is the HUMUMGA KOWABUNGA enclosed water slide. This slide runs down the side of Mount Mayday and has a vertical 65ft drop 9 (or 5 stories) in the total dark. Only at the end when it is light do you realise the surprise at the bottom!
If you just want to relax why not take a trip on the SURF POOL where you can run along the 610ft track in huge rubber rings and view the whole park. This is a great way to unwind after the hustle and bustle of the main theme parks.
The main attraction with Typhoon Lagoon is the main pool area. During the day at regular intervals you hear a loud bang coming from Mount Mayday and then soon followed by a massive Tidal Wave. Hit it right you can often ride the wave in, hit it wrong you get carried away to the beach! It really is bigger than you think.
As per all Disney Parks the staff are very friendly. It always surprises me how polite and courteous the staffs at Disney Parks are. They always seem to go that extra mile when it comes to customer service.
Overall I would say a trip to Typhoon Lagoon should definitely be on your schedule when visiting Orlando. It is a nice place to relax and unwind, but still has enough to keep the whole family entertained should they get bored of sunbathing.
