Magic Kingdom
Florida guide report - Disney Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom at Disney World, Florida is the World’s most famous theme park and is one nearly everyone will visit at some stage of their stay in Orlando. The park itself has not changed much over the years and still has its original charm and character. The park itself is made up of Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland & Tommorowland, main street USA and Liberty Square. New for 2014 is the new Fantasyland, home of the new SEVEN DWARFS MINE RIDE.
When you arrive at the park the first thing that amazes you is just how big the car park is. To get from there to the park entrance you have to get on a tram, which drops you off at the kiosk booths at the main entrance. Once through you then need to take either a monorail or ferry ride to the main park entrance. We have done both and if you are after the quicker option I would take the monorail, that said the ferry ride is nice and relaxing if you are in no hurry.
Once in the park you are on main street USA (where all the parades will go through), here there are shops and outlets where you can buy souvenirs and gifts. Normally first thing in the morning at the main entrance you will be able to meet and greet all the characters and have your pictures taken with the castle in the background. Main street USA is normally very busy and can get extremely busy just before parade times. Getting a good picture with the Castle in the background can be a hard activity, but arriving early does help.
Magic Kingdom has plenty to keep the older and younger members of the family entertained. Some of the rides will not disappoint and although some of them are over 30 Years old they are still really good. If you are after pure adrenalin mega coasters, this might not be the park for you, however there are 3 roller coasters on offer, SPACE MOUNTAIN – an indoor rollercoaster in total darkness, BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN RAILROAD – a runaway train ride down the side of a mountain and the new SEVEN DWARFS MINE RIDE – similar to big thunder mountain. All these roller coasters being aimed at the family as they and are ideal for everyone with low ride heights.
If you get hungry there are plenty of food outlets, most offer value for money food and cater for everyone. Although Disney do not like you bringing your own food in, they don’t stop you, which means you can normally pop to Subway if you get bored of the same Disney food. You can pre book meal tickets to save money and these are worth the initial outlay if you want to eat in the park more than once.
Other attractions at Magic Kingdom are BUZZ LIGHTYEAR SPACE RANGER SPIN – a shot ‘em’ up style ride for the whole family. DUMBO THE FLYING ELEPHANT, Liberty square riverboat, Jungle Cruise, Mickey’s Country House, Monsters Inc Playgound and SPLASH MOUNTAIN.
If you are looking to visit all the Disney parks and own a smart phone or tablet, the good thing about Disney is they have now included a FASTPASS + option. This now means you can book up to 3 rides to be added to your FASTPASS options on the day of your arrival. Choosing the rides or activities to be added to your FASTPASS is very easy and can be done by selecting one of up to six different options to suit your plan. The App will also show you what the ride queues are like on the day and what rides are closed. As Disney now has complimentary WI-FI checking your APP while in the park is very easy.
When visiting Florida a visit to Magic Kingdom will definitely be a must and high on everyone’s list. It has something for everyone and more so the little ones, most of the rides and activities are designed for the younger ones and because of this they will probably find this the best of all parks.
