Daytona Beach, Florida East Coast

When looking for a day out away from the hustle and bustle of Disney why not look towards the Florida coastline as a place where you can relax and recharge. The East coast of Florida is around 1 hour from Florida Ridge Villa and places like Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach are not far off the Interstate, allowing easy access, making it even quicker to get to than places like Clearwater Beach.

The part of the East coast I am going to talk about is Daytona and surrounding area. Daytona is well renowned for its World famous speedway circuit; however it is the beach area that draws in the mass crowds. Mile after mile of flat sandy beach area is the main attraction. With the beach being on the coast it tends to have more sun in the summer months than the Orlando area, due to less cloud build up.

We tend to go to Daytona beach in our second week of our holiday once we have done a few of the Disney or Universal Theme parks and are looking to do something a little different where the pace of life is slower. We always tell guests no matter what their itinerary they should always look to build into it some days off at the Florida beaches. We find Daytona a great place to go as it allows you to drive your cars onto the beach, which makes taking essentials like cool boxes, parasols, food and toys very easy.

When you arrive at the beach you might start to look for somewhere to park the car, you have 2 options at Daytona Beach. Either park in the large car parks or take your car onto the beach with you. What sets Daytona Beach apart from other Florida Beaches is the fact you can drive your car onto the beach and park it right next to you while you set up your chairs and towels. For many having their car right next to them is really good as you can then leave a lot of items in the car knowing they are locked up and at hand if you need them. For those that do take their own cars onto the beach you might want to pay attention to the signs making you aware of the sinking sand. When driving make sure you do not stray too far off the designated track, otherwise you will more than likely get stuck and then have to wait for the patrol to come by and pull you out! Something we only know too well ourselves!!!

When you are set up there is so much to do on the beach. You can do Body boarding (which seems to be the newest craze attracting the younger generation), you can hire quad bikes just off the beach and ride them up and down the beach. You can also hire pedlo boats, jet skis and go on a glass bottom boat ride. There really is so much to do at Daytona.

If you are after food there are plenty of good quality restaurants along the coastline. The specialties in Daytona are Japanese food and fresh Fish. At Daytona Beach the fish is so fresh it tastes great. There is even a mobile ice cream and burger van that patrols the beach if you are hungry. We would always tell guests to bring with them a cool box as eating near the beach can get expensive. As you will have your car with you, there really is no reason why you can’t bring a lot with you.

If you are after a day away from the parks, Daytona Beach really is a must. If choosing two beaches to visit we would always advise guests to visit Daytona and Clearwater beaches, these are probably the two best in Florida. If you do fancy a third there is always CoCoa Beach just down the space coast. There is plenty to keep everyone entertained and you can do as much or as little as you want during your visit, which means plenty of time to recharge and relax, before hitting Disney and Universal again.
