Blizzard Beach is one of the one of the Disney water parks, and has an amazing collection of water slides and activities for the young and old. Disney has designed Blizzard Beach around a large European Ski resort and has really made the park feel authentic. Blizzard Beach is located around 20 minutes from Florida Ridge Villa and the Davenport area.
I suggest you arrive as early as you can at this park, so that there is plenty of time to do everything and get a good sun lounger. The first thing to do is to go and find a beach chair or lounger to use as your base for the day. There are plenty of them all round the park, some in the shade under the trees and some in the sun on the ‘beach’ (where you will get most sun). The park tends to get very busy at weekends and as such we would always tell guests to arrive here before 10am to guarantee a good spot. Anything later you might be struggling due to the number of people. During the week queues are a lot shorter and the park is not as busy.
There are so many things to try that it will be difficult to choose what to do first. Due to the queues later in the day we would always advise heading straight away for SUMMIT PLUMMIT to ride this area. You might be restricted by the age of your group, but there really is a lot for all ages to do. Little Tikes area is for small children (maximum height 4 feet /122 cm) where there is a wading pool and they can go on gentle body slides, try an inner tube slide, play in interactive water fountains and have fun with water jets. For slightly older children there is the Ski Patrol Training Camp where they can go on inner tube slides, slide across the pool on a T-bar, whiz down curvy slides and cross the water on ice. There really is a lot to do for the children and they certainly won’t be bored at all.
Elsewhere in the park there are some great water slides, including SUMMIT PLUMMIT, which stands at 120 feet and has a near vertical drop. The ride is the tallest water slide in the USA. This is not for the faint-hearted as it sends you plummeting at 60 mph down. When you arrive at the bottom be prepared to take a 5-minute breather to get over the experience. For something a little slower is the TOBBOGGAN RACERS. Here there are eight lanes that go down the mountain. You need to hang on tight to your ‘toboggan’ as you charge down the course and over some dips and bumps. You are timed as you go and there is a winner declared after each race.
If you like a more gentle experience, or are maybe a bit full after eating lunch, then you could try Cross Country Creek, which is a very gentle, LAZY RIVER RIDE which winds around the whole park. You sit in a huge white inner tubes and bob along a slow moving river. There are points around the park where you can join, or leave, this ride so you do not have to go all the way round each time.
The facilities and restaurants are excellent too, as you would expect in any Disney Water Park. There are plenty of places to eat, or to buy a snack or a drink. The changing rooms and showers are spacious. There are lockers, towels and children’s life vests available for rent (the same as Typhoon Lagoon). Although plentiful the food was expensive and as such we advise people to make sandwiches and take these in a large cooler box (provided at the villa at no extra charge for you to use). This way you can miss out the queues and reduce costs overall.
There is plenty for everyone at Blizzard Beach, and even if you do not want to try any of the water activities, it is a great place to relax and top up on that tan before you go home. We tend to go to Disney Waterparks on an off day or in between some of the bigger parks to try and wind down. They are less hectic and the crowds are smaller. Just make sure that if you go at the weekends, you arrive nice and early.
